Protecting Your Home Against Winter Freeze

Have you taken down your Christmas decorations including those decorative twinkling ice cycles?  We hope you got them down before the cold weather hit.  Now if you see the real ones should you be concerned about ice dams?

The answer is yes. The more snow and ice that accumulates and the more temperatures rise and fall, the more likely ice dams will be a problem. Ice dams can loosen shingles and damage your gutters by weighing them down. They can even cause melted water to pool and seep into your attic. If that happens, insulation can get wet, paint can peel and cause damage to the ceiling and walls of your home. Its best to try and remove heavy accumulations of snow. A push broom such as a garage broom with stiff bristles can be used to remove snow off flat and low-slope roofs. A roof rake may be the option for sloping roofs. Both methods will allow you to stay on the ground which is the safest option.
